Meet James Walsh | Men’s Futsal GM
We’re thrilled to welcome James Walsh to our futsal program this season! James will be leading the ASA’s men’s futsal program and is looking forward to kicking things off at the Capitol Futsal Cup in December. We asked James a few questions to get to know his background!
Tell us a little bit about your Futsal background—
My futsal career started when I was introduced to it in college at 18. I played in local Latino leagues across the Salt Lake City area and found myself transitioning from a soccer striker/winger into a solid and reliable futsal goalkeeper. After a year of playing, I found myself playing my first ever professional club in Utah, Alianza FC. Since I moved out east, I found myself involved in several other futsal clubs, including the Baltimore Kings, Washington Fire, and Virginia Sudakos. Last year, I started organizing men’s pickup futsal in Alexandria and DC; as well as launched a new amateur men's club that aims to go semipro in the next few years.
What are you looking forward to in working with ASA Men's Futsal?
Easily the coaching staff! When it comes to the quality and dedication of coaches, there aren't many, if any, that hold up to the standard that ASA has with their teams and players. The training, commitment, dedication, passion, and mindset is on full display on and off the soccer field. Getting to know these guys since moving here, it is easy to see why so many people flock to ASA to improve their skills and professionalism as players.
Who's your favorite soccer team and futsal team to cheer for?
For soccer, I'm a die hard AS Roma fan! Totti and De Rossi were my idols growing up. Being from New Jersey, I also grew up a NY Red Bulls fan and still proudly represent my childhood club (sorry DC United fans). When it comes to futsal, I follow a lot of teams and academies across the United States. Lately, I've taken a great interest in following the National Futsal Premier League (NFPL) and Futsal Championship Series (FCS).
